demonstrating potential cancer protection. There is also evidence
that when applied directly to the breasts, bio-identical progesterone
offers protection against estrogen-stimulated cell proliferation
(called hyperplasia)- which can lead to cancer.
*NORMALIZES LIBIDO. There is evidence that it is progesterone
(along with testosterone) that is most responsible for a healthy
sex drive. The fact that many pregnant women report heightened
sexual desire can be attributes to the increase in progesterone
secretion during pregnancy. A 1994 animal study demonstrated that
progesterone stimulated sexual activity.
*REGROWS scalp hair. Women who have experienced hair thinning as
a midlife symptom can reverse this trend by using natural
progesterone.
*Bio-identical progesterone has none of the side effects of the
progestins. A small number of women on initial use have paradoxical
reactions, such as agitation and breast sensitivity, but these
symptoms go away quickly. This temporary phenomenon is caused when
estrogen receptors become temporarily sensitized to the addition of
the progesterone. When the body adjusts, the symptoms disappear.
Drowsiness can also sometimes occur, but can quickly be eliminated
with dose adjustment.
